Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, & Questioning (LGBTQ) Resources is part of University Life at George Mason University. Starting in 2002, LGBTQ Resources has worked for and with the LGBTQ and ally communities at George Mason’s campuses to create an environment that is welcoming and conducive to learning. Our Mission: LGBTQ Resources works to promote the academic success, health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students and their allies. We work to sustain and strengthen a campus climate of safety, equity, inclusion, and respect in which LGBTQ and ally students can succeed and thrive at Mason.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Campus Climate Task Force, established in Spring 2011 by University Life and supported by the Provost’s Office and Mason administration, spent 18 months reviewing the issues and concerns across the university for students who are part of the LGBTQ community. One of the projects this task force undertook was locating the all gender bathrooms at Mason. The LGBTQ Campus Climate Task Force created a list of these bathrooms in order to make these facilities more visible to faculty, staff and students.
We are currently updating our list (5 years later) that will include all of Mason’s Virginia campuses. We are working closely with facilities and signage folks to update the signage to be consistent with current transgender and nonbinary inclusive best practices! We are proud that Mason has been named one of the top 100 U.S. colleges and universities in The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students. Additionally, we are a member of the National Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals.
We are located in Student Union Building (SUB) I, Room 2200. That’s the main (2nd) floor, across Patriot’s Lounge from the Info Desk.
