Why Asynchronous?
As the Safe Zone+ Program is an evolving education and ally development program, we are hoping to engage with each member of the Mason community who wants to engage with us. Over Summer 2022 we initially developed an asynchronous version of the Intro to LGBTQ+ Communities session. Over Summer 2024, we have spent time updating the session and moving it into our new LMS, Canvas.
How to Access
Go to: https://canvas.gmu.edu/courses/26807
The course is open to the public, so anyone with the link will be able to engage with the content. The Intro module has also been published to Canvas Commons, which allows faculty and other course administrators to reuse the module in their course. For example, a faculty member could search for the course and then choose to put it in their own course and assign it to their students. You can find the Canvas Commons version of the course by going into Canvas Commons and searching for lgbtq.
Learning Outcomes
Folks who participate in the Intro to LGBTQ+ Communities asynchronous module will be able to:
- Distinguish between gender and sexuality
- Give examples of non-gendered language
- Identify examples of allyship
